Walter's Vietnam Stuff
Each of us has stories of particular importance to us and sometimes to others. I have a few that seem worth sharing.
Many of the lessons I was lucky to learn came form living through the 60's. Thanks to the US Air Force stationing me on Okinawa for three years, I learned some of what imperialism looked like up close. Returning to the US, I was fortunate to join the Civil Rights Movement. Trying to figure it all out, I graduated to a full time anti-war activist. The next ten years, were times of massive struggle and change which in different forms continue today.
I am taking this opportunity to put out a few of these stories and events as I recall them. There is no plan or agenda here, it is just time to put these out. I welcome feedback. Walter Teague
Here is the first story. It is about an improbable character and an improbable piece of history.
It starts with; Vietnam: Neglected Antecedents and the List of documents.

There was an organizatonal web page on the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the end of the US war against Vietnam. Seems it's gone now. However, here are some photos from that event in New York City, 4-30-2000..
Also, I will be adding some photos from the 30th Anniversary Celebration in Ho Chi Minh City that I attended April 29th through May 2nd, 2005.
If you haven't read or re-read Frederick Douglass' July 4th, 1852 speech.
Winter Soldier 2008 In 2008 a second Winter Soldier Investigation, this time of the wars in Iraq and Afganistan took place outside Maryland. For years since the US war against Vietnam, reactionary propaganda lied that the peace movements were against the troops. The main stream media still promotes this gross lie. Not only was the US peace movement pro GI in the 60's and 70's, but there was amazingly brave and effective anti-war organizing among the tropps themselves. Even peace activists often didn't realize how extensive this movement was. Watch Sir! No! Sir! if you can.
Video trailer of Sir! No! Sir! An inspiring film. For a taste of what it was like, here is Rita Martinson's beautiful song "Soldier We Love Your! (Quicktime) (Windows) (MP3 sound only). These will take time to download. |
